For a first in Home Office Outlet, we have a guest contribution, showing off their own DIY apartment home office tour. Thank you Jamie for giving us an insight into your workspace…
Hello everyone, my name is Jamie and I am a freelance writer living with my wife in Singapore.
We live in a two bedroom apartment, on the sixth floor. We use the main bedroom to sleep in, and the second bedroom I have turned into a home office, given that I work from home.
I want to show you my humble home office set up in my apartment. As you can see in my apartment home office tour, this room has been created with two very distinct “zones”. One which is the traditional desk and chair, and the second being a comfortable single sofa chair and table, for brainstorming time, or when my wife wants to read a book.
As you may notice, the office desk that I am using is actually a kitchen tabletop that I purchased from Ikea that I have attached to a metal desk frame.
When I was planning, I also wanted a “cozy corner” in my home office, so I hoped to find some space in our small second bedroom to do that.
I’m not a designer myself, so I don’t really know what kind of opportunity I would have, so firstly I measured the room and drew a simple floor plan with the desk, chair and table to scale, to ensure that it would all fit in the room.
So I looked through a lot of pictures on Pinterest and I also took a lot of screenshots from Instagram, trying to think of how I could combine all these creative thoughts together, with a simple colour palette.
Once I did that, I started to look at various online furniture stores, and Ikea catalogue and narrowed down the right products for me to buy.
I slowly added a few smaller things along the way, such as the fake plant, and this made it comfortable and reflects my personality and minimalist lifestyle.
As you can see in my apartment home office tour, I now have this beautiful corner for me to actually plan my day, do some brainstorming and taking some time out of my day to drink some tea and relax.
The whole office overhaul cost me less than $1,000, including the cool rug and pillow, and a few other items I also bought from Ikea.
It took a month of hours here and there to plan it all, and then once I had everything delivered, it was only a few hours doing the installation and so that’s all done.
Conclusion
So that is my apartment home office tour. I trust that you found it interesting, and that I hope I have given you some inspiration for your own home office spaces. Thanks for letting me feature my apartment home office tour on this website.
